Direct Coombs |
This group of tests is performed on cord blood from Rh-negative, and or group O mothers, mothers with a history of hemolytic disease of the newborn, or mothers with a history of irregular antibodies. All cord blood specimens are held for ≥10 days from infant’s date of birth. If the direct Coombs is positive, a #CMBSI “Indirect Coombs, Blood” will be performed at an additional charge.

Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Pink EDTA tube(s) - Serum gel tube is not acceptable.
Specimen: 7 mL (minimum volume: 2 mL) of whole blood
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions:
Note: 1. Please note ABO/Rh of mother.
2. Label tube(s) with the patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of draw, sex, hospital number, and initials of phlebotomist.
