Specimen Requirements

5 mL (minimum volume:  1 mL) (positives will require 30 mL for confirmation testing) from a random urine collection in a plastic urine container. No preservative. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. If there is a delay in transport of >8 hours, send specimen refrigerated.

Reference Values

Tests reported as positive or negative for each drug.

Cutoff concentrations
Cannabinoids:  <50 ng/mL

Opiates, morphine:  <300 ng/mL

Cocaine:  <300 ng/mL

Amphetamines:  <1,000 ng/mL

Tricyclic antidepressants:  <1,000 ng/mL

Barbiturates:  <300 ng/mL

Methadone:  <300 ng/mL

Benzodiazepines:  <300 ng/mL

Methamphetamine:  <1,000 ng/mL
Phencyclidine:  <25 ng/mL

Note:  A positive result should be considered presumptive. It indicates that specimen contains drug/drug metabolite near or above cutoff level. It does not indicate level of intoxication or specific concentration of drug in specimen. Physician should contact Aspen Valley Hospital (AVH) Laboratory if confirmatory testing referred to Mayo Medical Laboratories is desired. Specimens will be held for 7 days.
