Physician Office Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:  Grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube(s)

Specimen:  2 mL (minimum volume:  1 mL) of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride plasma

Transport Temperature:  Refrigerate <24 hours

Collection Instructions:  Fasting. Patient should be at complete rest. Immediately place specimen in wet ice. Spin down and separate plasma from cells within 15 minutes of draw. Place plasma into transport tube and forward promptly. If there is a delay in transport of >24 hours, send specimen frozen in plastic vial.
