Specimen Requirements

PREFERRED:

Plasma

Container/Tube: EDTA (purple-top)

Specimen: 1mL plasma

Transport Temperature: ambient

Collection Instructions: spin down immediately, remove plasma and place in separate plastic vial. Label vial appropriately, including "EDTA plasma".

ALTERNATE:

Serum

Container/Tube: Gold-top serum gel tube

Specimen: Gold-top serum gel tube or serum from plain Red-top tube

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Collection Instructions: Gold-top tube = Allow specimen to clot for approximately 10 minutes and spin down. Send entire tube to the laboratory.

Red-top tube = Allow specimen to clot for approximately 10 minutes and spin down. Separate serum and place into a plastic vial.  Label appropriately, including notation "Serum".
